Description

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) in Urbana provides toxicology educational programs, consulting services, review of case data as an alternative to traditional animal research, and a 24-hour veterinary diagnostic and treatment hotline.  Summer internships are available for ANSC students with interest in veterinary toxicology and animal welfare.  Interns may assist with the following types of projects:

  • Research within the APCC database, gathering data for the toxicologists to use while saving pets’ lives
  • Learn medical terminology and basic toxicology—which substances (including some household products that may seem safe) that can potentially be life-threatening
  • Listen in on APCC calls, learn how they handle different situations
  • Work in a fun, easy-going environment (many employees bring their pets to work!)
  • Sit in on ASPCA meetings and fun activities at the APCC

This is a full-time position, with a commitment of ~400 hours (4 credits of ANSC 398) for the summer.  The successful intern candidate(s) will start training on May 14.

Interested students should submit a resume and a letter detailing specific interests in veterinary toxicology and animal welfare to Kasey Snyder, Veterinary Assistant/Team Leader, at  Kasey.Snyder@aspca.org before April 20.
